The vocal scores include two English editions, one German edition, a nd one French edition. The English editions are by Boosey (c1914, pl. no. H.8361) and Wm. A. Pond (c1889). The Pond edition is selections from the opera. The German edition is by Bote & Bock (pl. no. 9114, 9119--9144) and the French edition is by Colombier (1870?, pl. no. C.3447). The piano score was published by Boosey (?) and lacks the title page. The orchestra parts include 16 holograph parts carrying the property stamp of Rudolph Aronson and 10 manuscript parts for the on-stage band. The vocal parts are in English, in four sets. Two sets are manuscript and two are mimeoed. Several parts carry names of performers. Set two carries the property stamp of Rudolph Aronson. The chorus part is mimeoed, in English. The promptbooks include 10 manuscript books, 15 typed books, and 3 printed books. Of the manuscript books, one carries the name of Dan Young, one the property stamp of Fred Solomon and cast names, and one in two volumes. One book is in German. The typed books include two with cast members listed and one book is in two volumes. The printed books include one holograph in French (1870?) and two annotated librettos, one by Boosey (1871) with the indication "property of W. T. Carleton" and one book consisting of the lbiretto, in French and English, bound into a lined ledger bearing the stamp of Arthur Bell. The dialogue parts include 22 manuscript parts in German, 72 manuscript parts in English, and 131 typed or mimeoed parts in English. These parts comprise several sets of varying completeness, and many carry the names of performers. Four sets of typed English parts are unbound, one set of 6 miscellaneous parts is marked "Special version," three manuscript English parts are marked "Carleton Opera Comp.," and 15 English manuscript parts carry the ownership stamp of Fred Solomon, one part of which contains bound-in manuscript music and carries the indication "Frederic Solomon, Casino, N.Y.C."

Henri Meilhac was a French dramatist, who often collaborated with Ludovic Halévy.
